December 2011

Back in August we spoke about receiving funding for a new unloading davit to aid quay users such as the commercial fishermen and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company. The Duchy of Cornwall, alongside the Isles of Scilly ‘Local Action Group’ and the AONB ‘Sustainable Development Fund’ have funded the project. Over the last month an area of  quay surface has been excavated and replaced with a concrete base on which has been fitted a 500kg, Spencer Carter unloading davit. On completion of installation, the crane was subjected to proof load testing by an independent authority from the mainland. Upon completion of basic training for its users, the davit will officially be declared open comfortably within the original specified time.
