The harbour team have been kept busy over the last month with not only an increase in visiting yachts but also with ensuring compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC). This ensures that we continue to operate in a safe and controlled environment with all risks associated with harbour work as low as reasonably possible.

The improvement in our weather has seen a rise in the number of yachts visiting not only the harbour but the Islands in general. Of course, the increase in traffic in our waters means that there is a greater need for highlighting boating events or navigational dangers to all vessels and to assist us in doing this we promulgate local notices to mariners. These are all now available on our website along with a number of other changes which have been designed to improve the site.

The past month, along with our regular visits from the Scillonian III and Gry Maritha, saw the return of the Ivor B with supplies for the school project. As no doubt everyone will be aware, the project is in its final stages with the opening of this wonderful new facility due on the 6^th September when the children return to school.

We welcomed the arrival of the new Tamar Class lifeboat from The Lizard which moored in the harbour beside our own Severn Class. We also had an overnight stay from the Ballyglass Severn Class (Bryan and Gordon). The RNLI also had a fundraising event on the quay towards the end of July with their flag day. This was well attended with many locals and visitors being able to step aboard The Whiteheads and see up close the equipment used by our volunteers.

Some welcome news came mid July with the Local Action Group announcing that they will return to funding good causes on the Islands. In the harbour we are currently awaiting a decision on an unloading davit which would assist our fishermen immensely – fingers crossed!
