May 2012

So far this month we have seen three visits from the MS Quest, a small, 53m ship carrying around 40 persons, and her sister ship, the Ocean Nova of which both were in on the same day using our St Mary’s Roads anchorage. Also on this day we had two visits from the Scillonian III, one from the Gry Maritha, and the Trinity House vessel Patricia was carrying out work on the Aids to Navigation around the Islands too.

Eighteen cruise ships are expected this month with visits from, amongst others, the 6072grt Silver Explorer at 354 feet in length and the 5218grt Clipper Odyssey which carries a maximum of 128 passengers. A full timetable of our expected ships and other events can be found in the ‘diary’ section of this site.

As I write the Sea Cadet training ship Jack Petchy has just manoeuvred alongside for the night, a first time visitor to the Islands and in true Cadet fashion, it looks like it just left the boatyard!
