May 2013

We have been subject to significant change over the last couple of days due to the time of year and eventually, one or two healthy dabs of sunshine.

As we prepare for this year’s World Championship Gig Weekend we do so with unbroken sunshine and a stunning forecast. We have a full quota of commercial vessels in the Harbour and are back to the regular schedule of the Scillonian III and the Gry Maritha. More and more yachts are arriving and we can certainly expect to be full for the weekend at least. With more than 130 gigs taking part this is set to be yet another record breaking year with two full sailings of the Scillonian III expected on the Friday as well as back to back planes from both Newquay and Lands End.

Our local moorings tend to fill up this month with plenty of sanding and painting going on in the Islands gardens, a bit of sunshine surely topping up the enthusiasm levels.

May is typically our busiest month for cruise ships and this year is no exception with eleven due in the next four weeks of which more can be read about in our Visiting Ships section.
