Visiting Ships

A few less movements this month with just three cruise ships visiting. The 14745grt Windsurf was the first arriving on the morning of the 4th. Her second visit of the year saw her land 247 passengers here on St Mary’s with a similar number heading to Tresco to sample the delights of the Abbey Gardens. The larger Marco Polo arrived on the 12th landing 718 passengers ashore and completing her third visit for the year before leaving the same evening through the North West Passage under Pilotage by Jeremy Phillips. The final visit of the month, and indeed for the cruising season came on the 22nd in the form of the 9975grt Seabourne Pride, built in 1988 in Bremerhaven, Germany, she has visited a few times over recent years and carries a maximum of 400 guests.

As far as shipping goes for August we got off to a flying start with visits from the Marco Polo and the Sea Cloud II on the 1st. Both regular visitors to the Islands the Barque Sea Cloud II, built in Spain and launched in 2001 landed her passengers on Tresco whilst the  22080grt Marco Polo landed 749 here on St Mary’s.

Following this on the 10th we had a visit from the 4077grt Corinthian who came from St Malo in the Channel Islands and spent the day here in the Islands before departing for an overnight voyage to Poole. She visited later in the month also.

Another annual visitor arrived on the 13th in the shape of the 28437grt Europa which still holds the top accolade in the Berlitz cruise guide,  for the 12th consecutive year! Further visits from the 28518grt Albatross and the 20216grt Discovery brought another 1169 passengers ashore and the Minerva visited on the 27th before wrapping the month up with 14983grt Club Med II on the 30th. We have three ships scheduled for September to round off the year before starting work on the 30 already booked for 2014!
