Harbour Byelaws

The Harbour Authority is empowered to, and has established, Byelaws for enforcement within its area of jurisdiction through the St Mary’s (Scilly) Pier Order 1890. More recently, we have applied for the status of ‘Designated Harbour Authority’ allowing us the power to make General (Harbour) Directions.  The procedure for making these is far less cumbersome than that for byelaws, which must be confirmed by the Secretary of State.  This power should, therefore, enable us to have a more agile response to mitigate safety, environmental and other risks identified in the harbour.
