August 2011

We finished July’s news speaking about funding for a new unloading davit to help local fishermen and others in their day to day activities here on the quay. We are pleased to say the funding has been approved and we are hoping to have the davit installed by Christmas.

The month started with the annual Penzance, around Scilly and back (PASAB) race departing on their final leg on the 1st accompanied by fine weather which brought higher numbers than normal. The yearly ‘Round the Island Race’, organised by the sailing club, successfully took place on the 21st August after being postponed earlier in the month due to inclement weather.

Elsewhere this month work has gone in to the planning of improvements to our Porthloo Boat Park. We are hoping to improve facilities for our customers and enhance the vicinity for the benefit of those living nearby.  Apart from levelling the land and providing a clearer view for residents, we are hopeful that, on receipt of funding, we will install fresh water and electricity bollards to users of the park and of course the main priority, which is the installation of a new slipway.
