November 2011

The Trinity House Vessel (THV) Galatea spent two nights anchored in St Mary’s Roads at the beginning of the month. A regular visitor to the Islands, this 3569gt, 84.2m vessel was built specifically for Trinity House in 2006 and is the second ship to bear this name. She primarily focuses on providing and maintaining aids to navigation but is also equipped for several different types of survey work, guard work and passenger carrying.

The Scillonian III carried out four sailings a week during October before lying up for the winter at the end of the month. The occasional extra freight run was undertaken to complement the annual maintenance of the Gry Maritha which generally sees her in dry dock for a week or so of work before the Scillonian III stops.

Another of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company vessels, the Ivor B paid one visit during what, after a busy summer, seemed like a quiet month for shipping.
