September 13

August has been another month of glorious weather here on the Islands. The weather, and the summer holidays of course has meant plenty of visitors arriving here within the Harbour on both private yachts and the now daily Scillonian III.  In fact one week in August saw a record breaking  amount of visitors arrive from the Steamship Company vessel.  Eight cruise ships have also spent time here which can be read about in our visiting ships section.

We have been keeping our boat park at Porthloo in top condition ready for the anticipated works to begin as soon as all the larger vessels are dry for the winter. A new levelled surface will house electricity and water points which will all be accessed by a new wider and longer concrete slipway. This is just one of a few significant projects we are hoping to undertake in the coming winter months.

As we move into September we will no doubt see a decline in visiting yachts which will allow us to dedicate some time to finalising our plans for maintenance to the ground chain on our visitor’s moorings. The works will be undertaken by the Padstow vessel ‘Manin’ with help from our own staff and our local dive contractors. The main part of the project is set to take up to two weeks so we are praying the settled weather continues, permanently!
